Facts & Questions

How do I prepare for my tan?

THE DAY BEFORE-shower & exfoliate with an oil-free product. If you have dry skin make sure to moisturize today because you will not be able to apply any lotion on the day of the appointment. Make sure to shave and take care of any other hair removal at least 12 hours before  appointment.

THE DAY OF-For best results, shower and exfoliate with an oil free scrub or an exfoliating mit. REMOVE ALL OTHER SELF TANNERS, MAKEUP, PERFUME, DEODORANT AND OILS. Wear or bring loose, dark clothing and flip flops. If you are attending a spray tan party please bring or wear these items and if it is raining, please wear a full shoe and don't forget your umbrella.

What should  I expect?

I am a certified technician and I will begin your appointment with a quick color consultation to determine the perfect solution for your skin tone, based on your personal preference and skin type. A complementary PH balanced treatment is mixed in with every custom color, which will help to properly prepare your skin for the application by destroying hidden oils and dry skin, and will extend the overall life of your spray tan. Post-tan, you will have the option to be dried and or powdered to prevent any tacky feeling on the skin.

Will I turn orange?

NO, of course not! The Tanning Bar solutions are designed to provide natural and conservative results. I have the ability to mix over 100 different colors with my amazing chemical free solutions, none of which are orange.

How long does it take?

A total body transformation takes only 15 minutes! I apply the solution using state of the art HVLP equipment. I have extensive knowledge in skincare and have been certified though advanced courses. I welcome all clients and practice a judgement free environment for a comfortable and positive experience.

What do I wear?

Essentially, this is the decision of the client. You may undress to your comfort level. Any clothing you choose to wear during the session (undergarments/bathing suit) can simply be laundered once in a normal cycle to remove the solution. I do ask that all males bring-wear something to cover their private parts-no "socks"  please, but thongs are acceptable. After the application, all clients should wear loose clothing, black is best, and flip flops. If you plan to allow your tan to develop overnight, then I suggest wearing a long sleeve top and long pants to bed, in order to avoid skin to skin contact.

How to maintain my tan?

Do not allow your skin to come in contact with any water or product until your tan has fully developed (this will depend on which solution you applied). This means no makeup, moisturizer, and no activities that will cause you to sweat until after your first shower. When you shower avoid bar soaps, exfoliants, and oil based products. After your first shower use a water based moisturize. Keeping your skin moisturized will mean longer lasting results and more natural, even fading.

How long does the tan last?

Your custom results will provide gorgeous, glowing results for 5-7 days (potentially longer with proper care) as long as your skin stays moisturized and products with harsh chemicals, exfoliants and heavy oils are avoided.

Competition Spray Tanning Instructions

For maximum results spend four weeks prior to your competition spray appointment exfoliating and moisturizing your body, every other day. The DAY OF your spray tan, DO NOT MOISTURIZE-use a quick baking soda wash and be sure to rinse it all off.

If you chouse to use a tanning bed for a base tan DO NOT BURN! I can not fix peeling skin and you will not have a good look on stage once spray tanned. Summer is great for a natural tan line but beware of tan lines! They are extremely hard to cover.

Peak week of your competition tan make sure to have been exfoliating for a couple weeks. Do not use any bar soaps one week prior to your competition. Wednesday after using your scrub wash entire body with baking soda gently. Friday eliminate the scrub and just use baking soda right before you spray tan. You can use a non moisturizing gel soap PRIOR to the baking soda.

It is suggested that you have shaved at least 8 hours before your spray tan, preferably the morning of. All WAXING completed at least 72 hours prior. YOU CAN NOT SHAVE after your color is applied until after your competition.

DO NOT put on any lotion, makeup, perfume, deodorant BEFORE OR AFTER your spray tan. Ladies will be able to apply makeup on show day, if I spray tan your face be sure to wipe it off before applying makeup. These products will raise the PH in your skin and will turn your armpits and body green.

For men and women with natural nails, painting the fingernails and toenails with a clear polish will avoid staining the nails.

Come to the appointment with clean, dry skin wearing dark, loose fitting clothing. Satin robe and flip flops is great for women and men with flip flops and loose shorts or sweats. Do not wear red!!! The red dye in cotton will tend to turn your skin green. silky fabrics are best because they glide over your skin. Avoid zippers, snaps and buttons. Do not wear jeans!

Women can be sprayed nude. Please remember to bring a tie or clip to keep your hair off your shoulders and neck. Men competing in men's physique may wear underwear, classic physique and body building men should be sprayed nude, or sock for best results.

The actual spray tanning process takes about 10 minutes for the application and another 10-20 minutes for drying. You will be sticky after Tanning for about an hour.

After your tan has been applied, please sleep in yoga pants-sweats and long sleeve shirt. This will eliminate any inadvertent hand marks on your body during sleep.

Please remember if you are staying at the host hotel, to bring your own linens!
